Flat pattern a tube

Hello again,

Been looking for a way in NX8.5 to flat pattern a tube thats been extruded along a studio spline. IE: Radiator hose

Objective is we want to create a manufacturing drawing of the straight hose.

Any suggestions?

You don't actually mean to 'flatten' the hose but to mearly make it 'straight', correct? If so, I would go with Deformable Component, where in the manufacturing drawing it's referencing a straight line while in the assembly it's referencing a spline.

Thanks John...yes meant to say make it straight. Will try Deformable Component.

The trick with the deformable component will be keeping the straight length to be the same as the bent length.

When I had to do some hose drawings, I modelled the hose in the as-installed shape (using curves for the centre line then putting a tube around it), then made an associative measurement in the model. I then jumped into the drawing and modelled a straight length of tube with the length, ID and OD parameters on the sketch linked back to the model file, so that once the model updated, the drawing would too. Bit of a funny work-around, but at least I knew the length's matched up. I've not worked with Deformable Components, so I'm not sure whether that's easier.
