I'm doing a steel girder truss with a W -section at the top and bottom chord and double angles making the webs.

Top and bottom chord of truss directly connected to the steel column flange at both ends. Span is 80'-0" getting spliced connection.

Connection Design specifies to provide L3x3x5/16 clip angle connection to frame truss chords with steel column flange. It's welded - bolted clip angle connection in which outstanding leg is bolted to column flange using 3/4" bolts to column leg.

The question is that there is no information of holes / slotted holes to be needed in outstanding leg of L3xL3x5/16 angle.

I would like to make 13/16"X 1" horizontal short slotted holes in angle to ensure roller connection. Has anyone done this with good/bad results?

Thanks
Sathish

A short slot should be no problem, and no concern. Are you the EOR? Why do you need slots? Can you use shims? There may be enough flexibility in the framing to avoid adjustment.

IMO, it is not a good idea and aBAD DETAIL to support the flat roof truss directly connected to the steel column flange. I would prefer SEAT TYPE supports.

I could not find the detail in my past documents but similar to the following found at WEB .

My opinion ..

Use it up, wear it out;
Make it do, or do without.

I agree with HTURKAK, top bearing detail with the bottom chord extension to the flange. Less eccentricity on the column this way.

Thanks for your advise.

Can you please suggest any source to understand type of support and connection?

As a steel detailer I want learn more about the pin,roller and fixed support connection and their limitations of usage.
