I'm looking to create a flexible part. I need to position a spring in a product that has several lenghts as free state.

Yes.

you can use Catia formulas to create the links between length and pitch.

you do not need to define extra settings, you only need to create a formula

And have two parts, of the same part file and part number, on the same assembly with different lengths?

hmmm... not sure about that. i didn't see that in the video you linked. (to be fair, i don't speak Hindi?)

I know that the part can be parameterized and that you can have differing lengths. I think there might be a way of doing it, but no one has ever asked me to try. it is easier to just throw a standard length in there that i know works and not bother with changing it. sorry for the non answer here.

In the same assembly, you always must have different files and different part numbers in order to show both states of the flexible part. It's a big problem, but it has always been a known limitation in the software (in my knowledge anyway).

There are some ways to handle this. When doing design work for an external customer, your customer probably already has written instructions for this. It's usually something like appending "_01" or "_02" to show state 01 and state 02. Or, appending "_Open" and "_Closed" to denote open and closed states of a model.

When you get your CATIA coupled together with a decent PLM system, you gain the ability to declare a Part Number (for procurement) separate from the model internal Part Number. That way you can have different representations included in your model, but your BOM shows the correct procurement information.

Mark is right, you can't have two instances of the same part with different contents. It's how V5 has been designed.
