Flint Municipal Water - Part 2 4

In my nonlawyer opinion, Rick should plead no contest, pay the $2,000 fine, move to Florida and take up golf. Grass is lead tolerant and somebody is probably going to be looking for a new golfing mate. Mind the score cards.

No criminal negligence causing death?

Prosecutors typically only bring cases to court where they have a high probability of success. In this case, willful neglect is an open and shut case.

Snyder administration actions:

[ol 1]
[li]Approved a $600 million municipal project that allowed a predominantly white county to bypass an existing water supply from a minority community and obtain water directly from Lake Huron.[/li]
[li]Allowed Flint to change the water supply from Detroit municipal water to the Flint River.[/li]
[li]Allowed the City of Flint to operate the existing standby water treatment plant without a licensed water treatment plant operator who failed to properly operate the plant[/li]
[li]Allowed the crisis to continue for 18 months before intervention by the Snyder administration.[/li]
[/ol]

More charges as well. Two former Ingham County officials are among at least nine people charged in connection with the Flint water crisis.

Saw a clip on Youtube just a few days ago where some one claims Flint is just the tip of the iceberg re contaminated potable water supply in the US - on a map of the US, at least 10 other cities seem to be in the same league as Flint. He claims the only difference is that Flint city officials got caught.

There are often many endocrine gland disruptor chemicals also found in most contaminated water supplies, whose effects are more subtle than plain lead or other metal poisoning. Another source of these disruptor chemicals is meat, where cattle are deliberately beefed up with chemical injections.

Both of your statements are true. Most wastewater treatment plants do not remove all contaminants. The cost to remove those contaminants is unaffordable. However, the problem at Flint is significantly worse.

Poor Rick. They're really throwing the book at him this time. $10K is a lot of bond money for two misdemeanor charges. They should hold his passport, just in case he's tempted to flee the state.

Oh. Maybe they want him to run. Then they might be able to pin a felony flight charge on him.

Criminal negligence causing death... or, maybe they didn't charge him properly...

Thanks, John... This doesn't address the criminality... the money doesn't come from the politicians pockets... to prevent this from happening again, a little 'skin' has to be left behind.

What the article did not say is how much of the settlement will be siphoned off by legal fees.

With respect to 'politician's pockets', $600 million did come from the state and $20 million from the city, so at least the 'politicians' will carry that around with them when they're up for reelection.

I really don't think it works that way...

They're all lining up right now to get politically born again and baptised in that new water.
