Hi,
May be a silly question but if there is a flow orifice(FO)shown on a p&ID. Would this orifice plate usually be ordered with an instrument to show the flow rate but if this instrument produces a 4-20ma signal then would it not be shown as a flow transmitter on the P&ID? I guess my question is there a visual gauge on the orifice meter?

Thanks

It could be a restriction orifice to reduce flow but is labeled incorrectly? Or an old FO that is no longer needed so they removed the transmitter but left the office installed.

But yes, typically a flow orifice would come w/ a 4-20mA transmitter that connected via tubing, and something denoting the transmitter would be shown on the P&ID along with the I/O.

I've never personally seen a visual gauge on an orifice. That's more of a rotameter type device, but should be shown differently if that's what it is.

Thanks for the reply. The symbol on the P&ID is FO in a circle with no associated I/O shown.

Thanks

If a "FO" without I/O, it's more like a "RO".

For the orifice plate with an electronic instrument, it normally shows on P&ID as a "FE" with the dotted line to the "FT", "FI", etc.
