I'm not sure whether to ask this question here (where I'm hoping all the turbomachinery folks hang out) or in the materials section.
We have a customer who tends to see high vibration on startup. We've been asked to look into an abradable seal, not to correct the start up issue. We have used Fluorosint 500 quite a bit on other machines, but I've never used one on an air machine with high humidity.
I'd like to know how much the seal will grow as it absorbs water to see if that will be an issue.
Does anyone have experience using an abradable in a high humidity air machine? Perhaps I'm thinking of using a very expensive material for a simple application. I'm awaiting the vendor response, but the more I know before talking with the vendor the better. (Pressure is atmospheric and temperature can be low 100 F's. Think US Gulf territory).
