Hi Folks,

I am trying to calculate the rebars for a deep rectangular footing. I think I am confusing myself .. I would like to get your guys' opinions on this simple issue. How would you guys calculate the bending for rebars (transverse) - for this type of footing ?
I was planning to have a stem wall + strip footing but I needed to connect the concrete stair so I combined them and now have this grade beam looking footing. Normally I would calculate the moment by considering the cantilevered length from the wall or column but how do you guys tackle this ? I attached the sketch.

Thank you for your time and energy all!

You don't really have any transverse flexure in that thing - it is much too deep.

Depending on your applicable code, you may want/need to put in some nominal temp/shrinkage reinforcement in the longitudinal direction.
We would typically look at 0.0018 times the area of the footing.

If the grade beam has flexure along its length, then you have to consider that as the span-to-depth ratio is much larger than in the transverse direction.
