What is the optimal number of crawler cranes needed to help rigs do their jobs?
1. in dry conditions (no need for tremie pipe)
2. in wet conditions with the need for tremie

Also is it usual for the piling contractor to own those cranes, or shall he leases them?

What is the optimal number of crawler cranes needed to help rigs do their jobs?

A simple question with a complex answer:

Contractor wants to keep the drill rigs working continuously.
At the same time, Contractor does not want to leave previously drilled holes open.
The number of cranes needed to support both rebar and concrete placement can vary depending on numerous factors.
The goal is to have concrete placement rate equal to drilled hole production rate.

Examples of factors to be considered include:
Weather
Drilled shaft size (diameter & length)
Properties of soil to be drilled (rock? ground water? etc.)
On-site rebar cage assembly (if any)
Concrete supply rate to the jobsite
Job size (number of drilled piers)
Job size (footprint of work area)
Project schedule

A qualified piling Contractor will likely own or long-term lease enough equipment to keep it in use full time on his typical size projects. For larger projects, Contractor will rent or short-term lease additional equipment as needed.
