Good Morning,
What are the best business practices for forging Ti-6-4 to aerospace quality?
Is it okay to forge Ti-6-4 in a furnace that is also used to forge Fe based pieces?
The Ti-6-4 is typically forged around 1700F-1775F while our Steel is forged usually above 2200F? I am worried that the leftover scale from the Iron can cause overheating and potentially contaminate the Ti product. I also asked various other forgers but most either forge strictly Ti or they only use the furnace for Ti and Nickel based alloys or alloys forged within the same temperature range but not any carbon or stainless steels.
Thank you
