Is there any really good reference out there on proper formwork set-ups for such things as walls, drain walls, etc. I find our contractors don't know squat about it - we get wavy tops as they are "finishing" down inside the formwork. [cheers]

Without thinking, I'll tell you ACI Document SP-4 is a long standing best bet on concrete formwork.

Now as to all the small details and logic, those things are hard to get out of a book, but alot of them are in there.

It's not too expensive as a base level reference. It won't make you a shoring contractor or an economical formwork designer, but it could be a good resource to try to share or at least give you justification when you question the practices.

Good luck,

after pouring the conrete how many days you need to remove the form?

Depends on the type structure, the concrete mix design, and the temperature. A few hours after placement to a week or so are typical. The most important thing is to protect the concrete from damage and to cure it properly - on many structures this can be done without the forms.

There are usually no real problem leaving the forms on for very long time spans (weeks or months).
