Foundation piles

Hello guys, in my work we are building foundation piles 9m deep and in all the excavations we have not seen any sign of water.
The supervisor want us to destroy the first 50 cm to descontaminate the concrete, and I tell him there is no need, I'm I wrong?

I would suggest there is no need to remove the top 500cm... loading of piles is so light compared to the concrete cross-section, generally, that even if you are tremmieing (sp?) water from the bore, striking off the first inch or two is all that is required.

you are more likely to damage the pile by cutting the top off...

Do you need to break down the top of the pile to expose the reinforcement so it can be cast into the pile cap? If not then I agree with Dik that scabbling off the top 50mm would be sufficient.

I assume these are bored piles, since you are talking about excavations. If you cast the pile to the right top elevation, you don't need to remove anything. If the top of the pile gets dirty or muddy, clean it off. Otherwise, you are good to go.

Retrograde... if needing reinforcing to pier or grade beam, it's best to use a 2' long sonotube form and not chop concrete... concrete erasers are a pain to use...
