Freestyle: Control Point Issues

Hello everyone, just new to the forums!

I have a couple of issues I'd like some assistance with. Recently I have begun learning the freestyle workbench in CATIA having used the part design workbench for some time. For the record I currently run V5R16.

My problems are with the 'control point' tool within freestyle. I am working from a tutorial which requires me to make a surface and then use the 'control point' tool to manually manipulate the surfaces shape. The tutorial has a number of screen shots of this process which show the wireframe/mesh with distinct visible control points (small coloured dots). However, when I add this mesh none of my control points are visible. Instead when I hover my curser over the intersection of two mesh lines I get a cross. I entered tools and selected display control points but this has not solved the issue. Could it be that my pc is not running an specialised graphics card and thus not processing the visuals correctly? The pc is running a gaming style card currently.

My second issue is to do with the manipulation of the surface itself. Although my control points are not visible I can still control the mesh and resulting surface deformation. However, the tutorial asks me to carry out a deformation using a 'bell curve' law with the support as 'local normals'. When I try do deform using the mesh line (so as to deform uniformly along the entire length of the line) only one point on the line is selected and deformation peaks there. When I switch from the 'bell curve' law back to default 'constant law' I am reable to deform along a mesh line. I can't understand what's happening. It appears that when I switch to this 'bell curve' law CATIA no longer recongnises the mesh line as one complete entity upon selection, rather it has split it into parts dependant only how many lines you have entered into the U and V parameters. A plausable solution would be to hold ctl and select each of these segments but this does not work.

Any help would be great, it's hard to describe my issue so apologies if it is no 100% clear.

Thanks.

Think I managed to solve the first issue, went to tools>visualisation options>apply dress up. Here I found an option for adding control points visualy (although now they are permanently present even when I come out of the control poitns tool) Is this correct?
