Hello,

We may get a program on developing main deck ULD, for crew bunks and not storage. Customer wants it to be handled (fork lift), sustain abuse and extreme conditions of tarmac, but main purpose is to be utilized as crew bunk during non-ttl operations. I was wondering what is main material for this ULD, are these made out of aluminum plates? how are the lower attachments to floor, seems like quick release type. Thanks

You will want to contract a certification agency that has experience with cargo and cabin interiors to deal with regulatory issues.

Plan carefully for conversations with your regulators.
Assuming you are talking about civilian aircraft, once you bring up ULD's they will expect you to be carrying cargo in it.
For example, when these bunks are stowed in a cargo compartment, they might ask you of the bunks will be occupied by people there, even if you have a design that makes that unreasonable.
They may ask you for a cargo load rating even if you don't intend to stow cargo in these bunks.
They may ask you for flammability testing for all interior components, even though the cargo doesn't get fire tested when ULD's carry cargo.
Overall, expect your regulators to treat these ULD's like cargo carrying containers AND as cabin interior, to your dismay.
Have answers ready for them, to demonstrate how and why they do not need to do more than they need to do.

@WKTaylor Great information thanks
@sparweb Yes, certification aspects are covered
stand alone air conditioning and ventilation requirements is another issue we are trying to address, we know how to hook up with aircraft system, but since there is a requirement that it need to be removed in 30 mins not sure how that works
