French drain

Having a French drain installed in the Chicago area to manage sump pump water from the neighbor. It is to connect to the sewer that was installed 2 houses down. Due to the distance over 100’ and obviously the slope it will end up being about 5” below the surface and eventually 12” below where it connects to the sewer. Is 5” below the surface going to cause any problems?

The word French probably means a perforated pipe with some sort of FILTER stone around it, right? Why not a simple solid pipe? In winter it may freeze up.
