Hello Abaqus users,

I am using Abaqus Explicit to squeeze a deformable body between two rigid platens. The test is quasi-static, and the friction formulation between the rigid body and the deformable body is penalty where the coefficient of friction is 0.3.

I assume a limit for the shear stress on the interface (contact) to be 300 psi. while when i checked the result, I found that the frictional shear stress exceeds that limit and reached 400 psi.

Is there any explanation for that? How can i minimize that difference?

Thanks.

I forgot to tell you that the contact type is surface to surface, and the mechanical contact formulation is : penalty contact method. The sliding formulation is : finite sliding.

when i checked the results, i found that the frictional shear stress exceeds the predefined value, why? the second question, how can i decrease that difference?

Thanks

Hello Chen1, i Think the if you use smaller element size you might decrease the difference between frictional shear stress you assumed and what you find in your results.
