Hello every body,

Currently I'm a student in mechanical engineering, doing an internship in a french company in structural engineering to validate ma last year (Master). In less than a month I will become engineer in structural analysis in that same company and I've a question.
As mentionned in the subject, my goal, in the futur, is to get to the petroleum sector. I'm asking to you guys how can I do it, is it worth it in 2021 ? Are the salaries still attractives ? what's advice do you have for me please ? Also what country should I go to ?

Thank you all for reading.

Ismael

Been there. Done that.

Most people don't pick industries going into red conditions.
If you are such an optimist, consider becoming a petroleum geologist.

Check the stock prices of oil companies for the last 5 years.

1. Capital reduction and asset lightening
2. A “returns and growth” mindset
3. More integrated offerings
4. Technology-driven business models
5. Smaller, smarter and more flexible workforces
6. Energy diversification

with billions of dollars in losses in 2020 and face an uncertain 2021,

Thank you for your quick answer !
It's much more clear now in my head: I won't get into that sector in the futur.
Have a great day !

Sorry for the cold shower...
Frankly I don't have a crystal ball, but there have been better times to consider the petroleum option. I just don't think this is one of them. Whatever lies ahead, it looks like it won't be a smooth road to the top, but rather significant and increasing ups and downs until it goes ballistic either up or down. In any case, petroleum is becoming politically unpopular. Never a good sign. My opinion is, good or bad, way too much turbulence ahead.

More color here.

Absolutely no problem, I really appreciate your honesty.
I would definitely take the redpill than being delusional and regret it years after.
To be honest I'm just trying to get out of the aeronautic industry. I've been thinking about two sectors : petroleum and computer science.
the probleme for the last one is that the transition is more difficult than getting into the petroleum since I'm not a developper even though I have some decent skills in programming.
