Frustrated with Hole Tool

Hi,
I'm having trouble with the hole tool. I'm trying to create a through hole on a cylindrical part and for some reason it won't take. Everything in the preliminary steps looks good.

I'm also following this tutorial. The step I'm stuck on is on Page 15, Item 4. Specifically I'm not sure how to select a secondary reference collector. I tried right click holding everywhere but it won't come up. I also read online that you can't select a secondary reference if you're using a coaxial reference. Is this true?

Lastly I'm new to PRO E. I finally got my first real engineering job and this is what they use. Thank you in advance and I hope you don't mind me asking lots of questions.

Co-axial only needs the surface and a single axis reference.
For the second reference, <ctrl> select the surface.

Having used Pro/E long before the hole tool existed I avoid it like the plague. I prefer a revolved cut. A much more flexible tool.

I disagree with that statement about a revolved cut, unless your holes are for fittings that have multiple diameters and tapers.
Changing the location of a hole created with the hole tool is so much easier and no extra geometry, hidden or visible, to deal with.

I see you're trying to place your hole on the outer surface where it sees only 1/2 of the cylinder. I'll bet if you placed it 90 degrees from where you're trying to place it, it will go.

Pro/E has always had difficulty with outer cylindrical surfaces used as placements due to the way it defines a cylinder essentially as two halves.

Agree, revolved cut would not care and sometimes it's the way to go. OP is using the Hole Tool however. It probably cares as it always did in the past. I've not been on Pro/E since WF 1 however. My suggestion was based upon past experience.

You may well be correct about why it's not working, I can't watch the video. My reply was really back at looslib for defending what I consider to be a particularly sloppy piece of coding from PTC. I hate the hole tool and consider is bad practice to use it. In my experience using Pro/E since release 2, I use only a fraction of the specialized tools that PTC throws out there because it is usually better to use the most basic, flexible and robust tool if you want to keep using and modifying the model years or decades later. I favor a little extra work up front to make a model that will always work.
