Fuel Injector Bungs

I will be starting a project of installing Fuel injection on my 455 Olds. The first thing I was going to do is drill out my manifold runners to install the fuel injector bungs.

Are there any guidleines on angles and depth that I should consider when installing the bungs? I want to make sure that I get the best possible location for optimal fuel deliver.. The bungs will be installed on a wet flow manifold ( single plane Edelbrock Torker)..

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Theoretically, unless the application is boosted, they try and aim the injector directly at the Intake valve. I dont have any idea if that is possible with the Olds or not. Typically, unless you are worried about emissions, and have a very sophisticated ECM ( Sequential ), I do not believe you will see much difference any way you would install them.
One other thing, unless you already have the manifold, look at the Victor, they work well for port EFI conversions, especially the big inch engines. I run a super Victor on a 489 inch BBC with a 100 MM monoblade Throttle Body, and notice no ill effects whatsoever.
 
So does a tunnel ram with the top blocked off and some throttle bodies on the sides or ends, that's if it will fit under the bonnet.

Try to get the injector as close to the intake valve as possible. Set the angle so that the center line of the injector nozzle intersects with the point formed where the valve stem meets the valve head. (combustion chamber side). It's not ultra criticle that you achieve this for power reasons but there is some gain in emission reduction using this method.-------Phil

I hear the Edelbrock will be coming out w/ a Victor manifold for Olds in 2005, but I hope to have the project complete by this summer.

Now when you say install as close as possible.... Is it acceptable for the the injector/bung unit to slightly protrude into the intake runner? If so how much? I would not want to affect air flow that is entering into the combustion chamber..

I would try to avoid setting the bung and/or nozzle into the intake stream if possible. There was an article in this months Popular Hotrodding magazine about a early 394 Olds converted to electronic injection using a mechanical Hilborn system. You might pick up some ideas from that.-------Phil
 
Phil, I searched the Popular Hotrodding site for the 394 Olds article and could not find anything. Which issue specifically was the article in? Thanks. -Bob
