Hi All,

ACI 376-11 in Clause 11.4.4.2 calls for a full-scale grouting test for PT Tendons. We have a LNG tank 46m high and would need to do a full-scale test (46m high) by building a mock-up sample and grouting it to satisfy code and spec. (140mm duct with 27 strand tendon).

It seems a horrific kind of test. Has anybody performed such a test or can rationalize a means to satisfy the code with a smaller scale of test?

Regards,

NB

Such tests have been done in the past, with striking similarity to your 46 m (150 ft) vertical tendon.

See the PCI Journal, March-April 1971. Paper entitled: "GROUTING TESTS ON LARGE POST-TENSIONING TENDONS FOR SECONDARY NUCLEAR CONTAINMENT STRUCTURES" by Morris Schupack

The above is a pretty old paper, and grouts have developed a long way from just water and neat cement - so it may be worth checking with some recent/current researchers on such PT grouting applications, namely professors Trey Hamilton and Andrea Schokker. Also best to contact PT industry specialists too - like Dywidag, Freyssinet, VSL etc.

Great thanks for the feedback...will check them out.
