As per my project scope line pipe needs to be FBE coated, where as received FBE coated pipe is having more than 8 no's repairs has been done by coating vendor, where as in the client specification FBE coating repair it is limited 6nos maximum. Since it is burried pipeline advise me is there any limitation for the number of FBE coating Repairs for 12 m pipeline, Since during Holiday test zero Holiday observed, Kindly provide Technical advise or international specification reference, how we can get acceptance for it.

Bit late now. You needed to have inspectors in the coating plant to reject it then and get it recorded.

There are no such codes AFAIK.

But that many repairs indicates poor QA and poor manufacturing process.

Up to you to accept or reject based on your specification. You did send it to the coating supplier did you?

If it is out of the purchase spec then reject it.
Pipe with that many repairs makes me very doubtful of the overall quality of the coating.

If the coating quality is in doubt, you could require an internal spark test for holidays, depends on the issued specifications. If there are holidays the coating will not be fit to purpose.

This test is possible for internal pipe surfaces.

Thank you vey much for the response.
Actually we have nominated dedicated TPI for the holiday inspection (100% witness) and final Visual and dimensional verification, We have obtained TPI report with No holiday and report which states visual also acceptable, accordingly we have proceed clearance for the shipment, once it is reached here during Material receiving inspection we understand that the holiday is not acceptable limit, we have raised NCR also to the vendor, but resending the pipe is not easy as per the project urgency,
Hence request any suitable technical advise along with Spec reference

Ahamed,

To help you furthe rit would be good to understand a bit more.

So about you. Are you the engineer, PM or?
Who do you work for - the client, an EPC, the supplier or?

When you say 8 repairs do you mean 8 in total or 8 per pipe?
Every pipe?
Was the spec sent ot the coating plant or is this "stock" pipe?
How many pipes are we talking about? What size?
What did the TPI say about repairs?
Did you pay the TPI or did the coating plant.
Where is the coating plant, UAE, India, China?

Have you done a further holiday test on receipt of the pipe?

Your options seem to be

A) accept the pipe as is and just bury it. By the time anything bad happens you'll be long gone.
b) Tell the client and get a dispensation for using it
C Reject it and tell the client his project will be late
d) Overwrap it with cold applied denso tape or similar. Now who pays will be an interesting discussion....

I'm probably too late, not sure how that left the coating mill, or the inspectors allowed it. Perhaps the holidays were caused from handling/transport. you can repair it in the field with a two part epoxy in the field, there are many available (from Denso, SPCC, etc.), follow their specification for repairs. Whatever you do, do not wrap it with tape overtop, it won't stick and eventually you have a coating overtop that will shield CP, it would be better to leave bare than put tape over top of it. Negotiate with the coater for cost if you can prove it left the mill that way and wasn't damaged in transport. Fire your coating inspector.
