Galling of 17-4 Stainless Steel Plate

I am having a problem with galling on a 17-4 stainless steel plate. The plate moves back and forth and will cycle in each direction once every 15-20 minutes. This plate is sandwiched between two seals(one each side) made from Nitronic 60. Is there a better material combination that I should use? (There is amonia in the atmosphere were this si used so aluminum and bronze are not an option) Is a coating a better route to take?

Have you tried to Nitride harden the surface?
This might alleviate the galling problem if your metal is too soft for the seals.

You should try ion nitriding the 17-4. Gas or salt bath nitriding will warp the part and possibly not work.
Titanium, either grade 2 or grade 4, ion nitrided will also work.

as for as I know nitronic60 has very good anti galling properties. Can you replace 17-4pg with nitronic material (may e you can use nitronic50)

We had that problem with our 316 and 17-4 shaft. our solution was, either we used a special thin coating called scotsbrite and there a alot of other trade name like ultra lub, magneplate,

the other solution was to glass beat the surface of the 316 ot 17-4. we use very fine grade of glass which hardenes the surface of the material
