I am trying to find classes on GD&T Y14.4 1994 in the Northeast.I have no problem finding classes in the Midwest but not NY, CT, NH etc. Can anybody suggest training centers in this area?

I've used Al Neumann's material at an onsite training class. Also, you might want to look at any local universities that offer professional training.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.

I am going to make some suggestions on training in GD & T since I have a fair amount of experience there.

Make sure that the trainer is a Certified GD & T Professional through ASME so at least the information received comes from a a good source. I would not say that all the people training in universities are certified.

This may sound strange but the certfication process has to do with the standard and the standard does not get into how the symbols are measured on the shop floor. The ASME standard may say that that flatness of 0.25 mm, as an example, would be two (2) parallel planes with a thickness no greater than 0.25 mm but what does that mean on the shop floor?

Make sure that the trainer knows how to interpret the GD & T symbols to shop floor reality. That is important to Designers as well as people who interpret the drawings.

You may have to fly to a GOOD source of traing in the mid-west but make sure it is a good source.

Hope this helps.

ASME offers online GD&T classes for individuals planning to take the GDTP certification test.

Tec-Ease ( is based in the Buffalo area, but does training all over the US & into Canada. They occasionaly do sessions in Vt, and are quite willing to set up a session in new areas. As for their experience, they have Frank Bakos, Chair of the Y14.5 Committee, and former Kodak guy ... knows his stuff from the toolroom and worked his way up from there, including generating many of the questions on the GDTP-S certification exam. The other Tec-Ease trainers I've used are Don Day (President of Tec-Ease), and Brett Lance. This group is all GDTP-S, work on the upcoming revision to the Y14.5 standard, and have significant experience in the shop and in design. Their style is to mentor rather than lecture, and they lead you through it rather than shoveling it to you. They have mentored me for a number of years now, and supported me through my certification. When you talk to Wendy, say Hi from Jim!

Heckler,

We do GD&T training all over the country. This last week, we were in Rhode Island giving beginning GD&T and Tolerance stack courses. 3 weeks ago we were in the Boston area.

Take a look at our offerings, and contact us if you are interested.

I just received info on a tec-ease class being offered not too far away from my location. Looks worthwhile, and I am going to push it with my boss.

ewh,
Years ago I attended classes by Don Day now President of Tec-Ease. He is excellent. One of the best classes I ever took.

Maybe check a Jr. college who has an
Aerospace influence from a big name OEM.
There maybe a good chance that e-bay will
have some DVD's that self teaches you.

I've had much training on the subject and by far the best training I've ever had was with Applied Geometrics, Inc. taught by Mark E. Foster. This class was held in NH but I beleive they are out of Chicago.

I received the GD&T Prfessional Senior Level Certification with the help of classes taught by Mark E. Foster.
