What's the recommended way to handle a situation in which 3D GD&T is desired on a model which is a Part Family?
For example: the 2 versions of a shaft exist in a Part Family. Version 1 is symmetric about its midplane; Version 2 has a shaft extension with a keyway on the end. I need to create drawings of each.
Is there a way to do this using GD&T (PMI)?
Or would the better way to model this be to create and the 2 shafts as separate components (maybe use a common "design master" -> WAVE in the common geometry -> create distinct features in each).
I can see how the latter approach could definitely work, but I'm interested to see if 3D PMI can be utilized on Part Families in general.
Thanks.
