Has anyone considered filing a GL claim for the COVID shutdown?

There are plenty of stories of people filing claims on coverage against business interruption due to named COVID or COVID variants causing pandemic and being turned down by their insurance companies and being forced to sue; so far no word on any success as the courts are closed and not taking such cases.

You think the insurance company is going to give you money? How cute.

As part of my education, how would GL cover you against this COVID shutdown?

I have in my mind GL covering you against an accident that may happen while onsite. Say, I a tape measure falls out of my had while on a lift and hits someone in the head.... or I accidentally damage property while doing an inspection. So I am not quite sure how this would work for a claim against the shutdown.

"Business interruption" is a standard part of GL policies. The wording of the policy is important because mine at least excludes anything virus or bacteria related, but includes Civil Authority imposed restriction of access to your property.

I suspect the law of unintended consequences will apply

Business makes successful claim for WuhanVirus losses->future premiums take this into account or pandemics are always excluded.

Maybe, but remember that the GL market is pretty ramshackle, particularly at the level of we consulting engineers. Errors and Omissions is a different story (though ramshackle in different ways).

The main point of my GL insurance right now is so I can get auto coverage for a car I don't own, just bc certain of my clients require it as a boilerplate thing. I pay $2000/year for this amazing service, so if they need to peel off a few bucks for me for this actual real loss i have sustained, I think they will survive.

You have a much better shot at getting a PPP loan awarded and forgiven than you do of getting blood from the insurance stone.

SteelPE, you and I seem to have the same opinion about insurance.
