I have managed to acquire a fairly old 62.5kVA, 3ph, 220/110VAC diesel generator - a MAGNICON Alternator driven by a D6 CAT engine.

It needs a bit of work and I am trying to do some research in order to get some background data on this piece of equipment. Apparently, this is not a common combination as local representatives exhibit a bit of unfamiliarity.

Nameplate suggests origins in the UK. Maybe some of the UK guys can offer a suggestion!

The name doesn't ring any bells - if it is an old UK company (and if so it is certainly defunct now, it doesn't appear in any of the UK trade directories) then this machine was built for export as the voltage isn't for the UK.

Until recently we were 240/415V (now 230/400 to fit in with the EU). It is only building site tools (single phase) here that use 110V, and they come with 240-110 transformers. We are 50Hz by the way.

It may be that the alternator is just badged Magnicon, but was built elsewhere. Possibly Magnicon bought in both diesels and alternators and built them up into gensets. There are still a few companies here that do this, for example:

We use 50Hz here as well, which would confirm your statement about being made for export.

I am surprised that there seems to be no reference of "Magnicon" that I can find. Maybe I'll have better luck retrofitting a different alternator if this one does't test well.

jb,

tried this one already. Apparently all references of Magnicon point to electronics based devices. No power stuff!
