Hi All,

Being an offshore operations engineer who just support Petroleum Engg dept in all the well intervention activities, I wanted to read and understand API 6A standard. But, when I opened such a big document, I am confused how and where to start in order to get it well. Can someone please help me with some strategy for beginners like me to understand it well. Any links with supporting information will be greatful.

Thanks in Advance.

IMO, you may look at the table of contents of the API Spec and start any chapter which is interested to you first, such as Design, Material, Fabrication, etc. If no specific subject, one may start it from the chapter one, and go on. And then, one may start another post for specific questions.
Have a fun and luck.

I recommend the below:
1. Read through the whole document. Don't do it all at once; read a chapter and then take a break.
2. Determine if and how a current product (or a new product that you are designing/purchasing) meets the API 6A requirements. This is a fair amount of work (it can be done in a lengthy spreadsheet) but is a more interactive way of learning than just reading. It helps to have read the document first or to read the document while doing this exercise.

API has a webinar on the scope of API 6A and changes in the 21st Edition available at the link below. The webinar is free but requires registration.
