GIS system software freeware

Hi,

My apology, in case if you have seen this question before. I remember I posted this question yesterday and suddenly it's off the list for some reason when I checked today.

My question is if there are any freeware GIS software for mapping that you may recommend me download on my PC running on Windows 7 Pro. I found one called mapwindow and others like openGIS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
