Hi Guys,
A client of ours wishes to have us glue test tags to their valves.
Has anyone any recommendations on the type of glue that would suit best.

They will be outdoors in hot sun.

Thanks

What material are the valves made of? What material are the tags made of? Any valve surface roughness or polish?

Best to you,

Temperature?

Epoxy?

Glue suitable for conditions and used for car motor-rooms?

Thanks guys, and apologies for not giving you further details.

The tags will be stainless steel and the valves will mostly by painted WCB

Cheers

Well, I'm not sure what your TLA means and I don't know what sort of paint you're using, so...

If the valve bodies are brass, bronze, steel, or aluminum and you can remove the paint, metal-to-metal is OK with a quick-set metal epoxy. Super Glue is one brand, I thinnk Permatex has one, and we have used Loctite Hysol E-120HP. The valve shop guys once ran out of glue and got some from a golf club repair shop that was really good too. They called it shafting epoxy.

All that said, to survive and last -- clean, clean, clean your surfaces. Rough 'em up too.

Finally, glue is good but chains (or straps) are better.

Best to you,

Two sided foam adhesive tape often works pretty well for this type of application, and is very convenient to use. 3M VHB is one example. Surface prep is important with any type of adhesive.

For valve tags we have switched to 1/16" stainless cable with crimped cable clamps.
Beaded chains suck and the temperature swings of valves makes it hard to get anything to stick.
If I had to go with a glue method I would choose the double sided adhesive tape.
