In Triaxial testing using BS1377, There is 'failure criteria ' that must be reported. How is this determined and how significant is it? thank you.

Failure can be defined in a number of ways: peak shear stress, peak pore water pressure, peak principal stress ratio or a specific strain. It's very important and requires experienced engineering judgement.
