Hey guys,

First post here... I'm a Mechanical Engineer who recently started working with open channel flow (more civil related). Most of my learning to date has been on the job, but I'm looking for a good crash course on open channel hydraulics. Does anyone know of a course offered up to a week long that I might be able to learn some more technical aspects of open channel flow? Anywhere in North America will work fine.

To specify, I'm working in the Amusement Park industry, not floods. From what I can see though, a course on floods should work too since it's the same principles for a river or concrete trough.

Thanks

Thanks for the info cvg. However they don't quite have what I'm looking for, so if anyone else has any suggestions that would be appreciated.

Ha!

When I taught open channel flow last year I took my students to a water park, and we did experiments on the flumes there. It was a hoot.

For your application, really spend some time learning the specific energy diagram, hydraulic jumps, choking, and gradually varied flow. Chase me down by the link below and email me. I might be able to scare up some notes from the class. I taught mostly out of Sturm: Open Channel Hydraulics, out of familiarity.

Waterpark? No way... Take at least a semester of undergrad Hydraulics before someone gets hurt.

That's just for one-dimensional flow. Then go to grad courses and proprietary modeling courses for 2-dimensional flow.
