Graphene tennis raquet?

Machine Design magazine for March has an article about Fabricating 2D Materials. Graphene is one of the materials written about and is more than 200 X stronger than mild steel!!

Today on TV I noticed that Prince is advertising GRAPHENE tennis raquets. Can this be real or are they just playing with words? Besides, how can you make a tennis raquet one atom thick?

I'd say they mean graphene composite-its not a big step from graphite racquets- which are also composites. Lots of companies have developed the composites including Quickstep for car manufacture use.

Probably a degree of graphene nanoplatelet (or nanoribbon) reinforcement of a polymer.

The extract shows a fairly typical enhancement over neat resin. More of an improvement of basic resin properties, rather like nanotubes are at present, than a useful reinforcement like carbon fibers.

Sort of like the Ti in golf balls (it is the Ti oxide that makes the covers white), it has nothing to do with properties.

Thanks for the comments. Pretty much confirmed my suspicion they are probably using just enough of the technology to capitalize on emerging technology buzzwords

Graphene is a bit of hype intensive research right now. Mostly because the promises made for CNTs didn't ever materialize.
