Graphics card problems

Hi,

Please can anyone help!? I am a new user of Pro/Engineer. My current system configuration is Pro/E 2000i2, running on a Windows 2000 operating system, and using an Elsa Synergy III 32mb graphics card.

The problem is, whenever i try to create a sketch (in sketcher), everytime i move the mouse pointer, a trail is left behind it. This only happens in sketcher mode and on the black sketcher screen. It is highly annoying because it is virtually impossible to see the 2D sketch.
I've changed my settings for the graphics card to OpenGL, but this has made no difference!

Please help. Any solutions will be much appreciated.

I have this same problem on my setup. I am afaid it is a bug in the program and will be fixed in subsiquint rev. Try a different background color (probobly won't help) and/or repaint often.

I have just contacted the Elsa graphics card support line and apparently by upgrading the graphics driver and bios settings it will probably solve the problem!

Also, i have just realised that i have to setup a correct config.pro file and point it to the correct location, i'm afraid this is all new to me so excuse my naivity.

By the way, when you say new revision, do you mean another version of 2000i2 or wait for 2001?

Go to

(this is a good site) and copy the sample config.pro file for 2000i2 onto your machine.
Load this config.pro file in place of the default one.
<Utilities>,<Preferences>,<Load Config>

I am running NT4.0 with a PIII and a 3Dlabs VX1 graphics card. When I use the intent manager in the sketcher mode I get the same problem. The mouse leaves line artifacts behind as you move it - very annoying. The funny thing is it doesn't do it if I shut off the intent manager in sketcher. I also found that everything works fine if I go back to my old Matrox Millenium (8mb)graphics card. The only reason I went to a new computer and and the faster graphics card was so I could manipulate the complex models. Guess what - I'm back using my old 200 mghz NEC computer and I'm pretty pissed off. PTC should address this problem or let us know which graphics cards work. I bought the VX1 card because their advertising said they were a PTC recognized partner and fully compatible. Maybe their $1000 card works but their $200 one doesn't.

Jelenko thankyou very much, you were spot on with the Config.pro sample file from frotime.com, it worked like a charm.

Although that wasn't the end of it, my sys admin also found an ftp server to download a new driver for my Elsa graphics card, and once loaded the sketcher problem was completely solved.

Kspie, i think it might be worthwhile looking on the net to find a new driver upgrade for your new 3dlabs graphics card, also check on the ptc website to make sure your card actually works with Pro/E, also, make sure your card supports OpenGL and set your config.pro file option Graphics to OpenGL. If all else fails, maybe purchasing a new graphics card might solve it. The Elsa Gladiac and Synergy 2000 both support Pro/E and OpenGL and are affordable, around £180 (about $300).

Windows 2000 ?
Try control panel - mouse - pointers
and remove tick from the 'enable pointer shadow' box.
This should remove the unwanted mouse trails in sketcher

PTC does post a compatible hardware list...

...and your VX1 is on it. That can only mean one thing - you haven't set up ProE's configuration options properly or at all. Of utmost importance is the GRAPHICS setting in the config.pro files. If you still don't know what a config file is, I suggest following the suggested ProE installation and configuration articles on the knowledge base.

Trailing, or 'ghosting' of pointers or windows is an indication of either a sub-standard video card, or lack of the proper setting within ProE.
