How can I use grip to append text to the front of a dim and have the dim keep the associativity. Thanks

Don't think you can as GRIP has no edit text functionality. In GRIP, you have to grab the text, erase it and then put back the new note.

Let us know more about what you want to do. I think that for a single dimension it would surely be a waste of time. For the same text to be added in front of several dimensions I would just copy and repeatedly paste it using the dialogs without taking up very much extra time at all.

Perhaps you would have want to do something beyond those simple tasks.

Hudson,

I want to use grip because when a drawing is complete we need to add qc check numbers (the appended text)in front of the dim's. I will then output the add appened text, the dim and the tolerances to a excell sheet so vendors can check parts to the excell sheet. The bottom line is we have up to 200 dims that we need to edit. This is done after dim's are placed so when the added qc check numbers are added it is in some what of an order.

I would caution against using GRIP for this application. GRIP is not being enhanced and hasn't been since V11, except plotting in NX3.
Use a tool that is supportted in the current version for developing any new automation.

yes Ben i'm aware of that. But until my company goes to nx5 it is my best option. I have used Grip quite often and just needed the syntax to add the appended text and I can take it from there. Thanks

Bonczyk,

Have you looked at 'Edtext'? Help docs NXOpen> Drafting> Drafting aid Creation...

I'm not sure if this would help and/or maintain associativity, but it looks like it would just add appended text to an existing dimesion so associativity would be maintained???

CAD should pay for itself, shouldn't it?

As far as I know, you cannot add appended text to an existing dimension using GRIP.

ss I have looked at edtext work very well but can add an appended text to the front of the dim as I would like.

Phil, really no way to reference the dim and reoutput dim with new text?

Thanks all
Bill

The issue is that there is no qualifier to define what the appended text should be. It's only something that can be defined during the creation of the dimension.
