Started a new sprinkler design for a "FIVE BELOW", the retail store is about 8,000 SQFT 22ft top of steel, one of eight stores in a new mall.
I would have used a OH2 design until I Googled five below "Images" Group A plastics on sales walls to 10 ft. and through the front retail sales area. Storage in back room over 5ft. Plastics.
Am I Over Killing the project if I use Misc. Storage, with a ceiling height of 22ft. Extra 2, .40/2500 with 500 hose. Seams a bit excessive for a retail store.
These stores seam to be popular in the NE part of the country. Has anyone else run across this, if so what was your design.
Still on NFPA 2010.

Well, one thing you need to do first is to see whether the storage can be really classified as miscellaneous or not. See 3.9.1.18, ed 2010.

I require it commonly on several of the sports athletic shoe stores. Be cautious because some of the back of house operations employ back-to-back shelving, which requires compliance with NFPA 13 (2016 edition) Section 15.2.2. My jurisdiction and one insurance company classified athletic shoes as the Cartoned Expanded Group A plastics.

OK from an insurance loss prevention engineer who has been down this road a few times before I retired.....Have you contacted the corporate office of Five Below, in particular the risk management department? Have you contacted the property insurance carrier engineering department for input? Do not go by pictures on the internet get a layout from corporate and base your design on that drawing and corporate feedback, this is not the first store for them they have been down this road before. This way when they have a fire and everyone gets involved you did it to the customer drawings, layout and feedback. You know in 6 months they will change the store design based on the corporate marketing dept. Get everyone to sign off on your design to cover your butt.
