Trying to create a feedback system to read the hard drive RPM and then set the RPM to a specified value.

Any ideas on how to set the rpm of the drive?

Nope, trying to create a feedback system demo.

????

Wouldn't you compare the measured vs. desired and command the servo to increase or decrease the rate as appropriate?

IRStuff - you're right but my question is how does one control the servo? I'm having a difficult time figuring that out.

Are you talking about trying to control the servo on an off-the-shelf HD? If so, then you're basically SOL, unless you know someone from the manufacturer. Even then, it's probably unlikely that the is a servo command, since there's generally no reason to change the speed.

there are programs available to modify the hard drive speed from some of the drive manufacturers under windows and there is SMART that gives info back.
