Hi,
I have look into ASME IX QW-100 and QW-451.1 to trial to find if there is any requirement for hardness for a welding qualification for Carbon steel in weldmetal and HAZ, and in addition if there is any hardness requirement related to if PWHT need to be done(to hight hardness value, but could not find anything about this in the code.

Hope someone could help with this question.

Your design Code, like ASME B31.3 or ASME Sect VIII Div 1 will you tell you those requirements.
ASME IX is a service Code, whereas B31.3 or VIII-1 is a construction Code which dictates such (additional) requirements, like HT or PWHT.

For WPSs intended for oil & gas, petroleum, refinery or chemical plant I do hardness testing routinely. Small cost to do it now, big hassle later.
The contract specification will detail any extraordinary requirements, such as MACE MR0175.

Only QW-290 for temper bead welding defines hardness testing. Hardness testing of carbon steels are not defined in most construction Codes; it is addressed in API-582 and various NACE publications as a means to mitigate stress corrosion cracking. ASME Codes place the responsibility for corrosion related design on the Owner/Engineer.

I agree with Stanweld but would add that some codes address hardness testing after PWHT. B31.3 comes to mind.

weldtek,
Alloy steels, yes but not for Carbon Steel.

Thanks to all for your feedback.

Hi Odd1,

Some more insights on this querry.Hardness requirement on PQR is a specific design/service environment induced issue.Generally in ASME BPV codes there's no requiremnet for hardness on PQR,except for B 31.3 code, Table 331.1.1. But note, ASME B 31.3 does not set any limit for hardness for carbon steel.

If the design specification is one of the these, MR-0175/ISO-15156 or MR -0103/RP-0472, along with ASME BPV and piping codes, hardness restrictions for Carbon steel are as follows:-

-MR-0175/ISO-15156-Table A.1-22 HRC, for weld & HAZ.

-MR-0103-2007-Hardness restrictions as per NACE RP0472.The hardness of the completed weld deposit shall not exceed 200 HBW.The maximum allowable HAZ hardness shall be 248 HV 10.
Accordingly the PQR should be qualified.

Thanks.
