Is there anybody out there building assemblies successfully with around 5000 parts or more?. If yes what hardware are you using? Ideally i want to be able to go up to in excess of 10000 parts. My Solidworks supplier advises me that the following hardware spec will be sufficient.

2.5GHz Pentium processor
2GB+ of RAM
Nvidia Quadro 4 or Wildcat graphics card
SCSI hard drive
Windows 200 (sp2)/xp pro

The computer i am in the throws of purchasing is as above with the exception that we will use a Zeon processor.

Unfortunately i have doubts about information given to me from my reseller

ohh duh...[morning]

That seems like a fine computer to me to run large assemblies on. I would get a large HDD though something like 80-120 gig. That gives you plenty of space to put a large Virtual swap memory spot. Something like 3-4 gig swap space.
