I am reviewing some new standards to help with our reliability of our test systems. While we are not flight hardware we do have requirements for a reliable system. Currently we do not have a good system to remove counterfeit parts from our supply chains. Previously I have used ANSI 540, and ISO 17025 but not really sure what we got for our money besides a charge.

Which drives me to investigate the following two standards:

AS6081: applies to independent distributors/brokers, transactions conducted by a manufacturer-authorized distributor distributing product within the terms of a distribution agreement.

AS6496: requires authorized distributors to, Have a counterfeit mitigation policy; Have a counterfeit electronic parts control plan; and Sets forth certain customer-related processes.

So as an end user/implementor what do I get besides a greater charge for requiring a distributor such as Newark to comply to the two standards above.

TS...

ANSI 540 and ISO 17025 are perplexing to me... I can't find them... at least ones that seem related to this subject of 'counterfeit'.

I am surprised that Your [??] government/industry/company/professional-organizations don't already have specific references/regulations/standards/training materials on this already.

There are relevant ASTM, SAE, FAA and MIL-related info out-there RE counterfeit parts, materials, etc. List is too diverse/ for me to list here...

NOTES1.
FAA often uses the broader/more-encompassing term 'Unapproved' in-lieu-of 'Counterfeit'.
The term 'BOGUS' is sometimes inter-twined with 'counterfeit'... however, 'BOGUS' is more formally used to represent false or misleading formal representations... typically verbal or written or otherwise advertised/documented... not actual physical 'parts'
