We have small mixing and bottling area in our plant.
The tanks are used to mix and bottle an adhesive.

1 time a week, we will need to rinse out the tank and lines with about 5 gallons of MEK. The MEK will be pumped around by an air pump and then captured.

Does this make us fall under Class 1 Div 1 or 2?

The MEK will only be in the area during that time.

Thanks for any ideas.

Deheading vessels as part of the normal operation likely requires a Division 1 area for a small radius around the vessel head. Review API 500 for heavier-than-air gasses and adequate ventilation.
