We produce an industrial meter that has been certified by UL for Class I Div II and UL/Demko for Class I Zone 2 hazardous locations. I am trying to determine if UL has a document or standard that governs the requirements for repair/refurbishment of Class 1 Div II equipment.

FM has FM3606 which relates to FM approved hazardous area equipment. IEC has 60079-19 which relates to "European" Zone clasified hazardous area equipment. I haven't been able to find a UL equivalent to these two standards for North American hazardous area equipment.

I also looked through the NEC (2005 Edition) and didn't see anything pertaining to repairs of quipment.

Any info would be appriciated.

Give UL's hazardous locations a call. Start with 877-854-3577 (cust service) and ask for an engineer or technical reviewer in that department (I believe they are in Northbrook, IL). Have your UL file # ready for reference.

FYI - the NEC is now up to revision 2008.
