Hi All,

We are using HDPE(Without GF) now and it's showing unwanted value of 60~70 MPa of stress now.
So for better "Tensile Strength" & "Yield-Strength", i want to shift for HDPE with 30% Glass filled.

And here problems come into picture, as i don't know any reference for basic difference between cost and changed properties of New HDPE with 30% Glass Filled.

Please let me know any reference or suggestion to come up for solution.

Warm Regards..........

30% GF polypropylene will be a much more commercially available material with a very similar overall balance of properties.

Prices have been volatile recently.

Material suppliers in YOUR area should be able to supply current quotes for unfilled and identical except for 30%GF material.

Pat's right that PP is a better choice than PE.

If you only need a modest boost in yield strength then talc or mica will work and will be cheaper than glass fiber.

Use PT online to identify which one of the multiple suppliers of GR PP you wish to use. Contact one of their salesman. Are you injection molding or using sheet? If you are injection molding, you should be aware that the GR grades have much lower mold shrinkage and it is non-uniform from flow to across flow and therefore you may get a lot of warpage plus the parts will be bigger. Contact the material supplier's technical people for assistance. If you are fabricating from sheet be aware that the the actual stress actually stays the same if the load stays the same. Only the deflection will be reduced by increasing the modulus by adding glass or other reinforcement. If it is a fixed displacement type of application, the same deflection will cause higher stress in higher modulus materials.
