Hi,

can anybody help if i heat exchangers effectiveness is closer to 1 does this make it more efficient, for example a heat exchanger with a effectiveness of 0.8 is more efficient than one with 0.7 effectiveness???

When comparing the performance of the same exchanger under different conditions, IMO the answr is yes.
When comparing different exchangers, IMO it all depends on what you mean by "efficient"...

Hi
Are you working on bare tube, fin-tube or other calculation?

doesn't manufacturer have some tables of different fluids passed through the heat exchanger? Btw, getting very close to 100% efficiency would require a substantial amount of distance traveled by both fluids. It may be more important to look at what temperature you need your fluids to be at upon exit from the exchanger

some plate & frame HX's are close to 1.0 if they are not fouled. Review the references listed in 25362's post.
