A Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger with Hot Side EWT 200F and LWT=180F. Another Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger with Hot Side EWT=300F and LWT=200F. Both with the same working pressure (150 psig) and other equipment specifications. The only difference are the EWT and LVT. Why is it that it's the Heat Exchanger with the higher delta T is the one more expensive? Is there more accessories involve and the price is not dictated by the delta T? The System has a Hot Water Loop, is the 300F EWT also the temp. of the Hot Water Loop coming in to the Central Cooling Plant?

I know that I could get the answers by asking the Heat Exchanger vendor but I want to know the physics of it. I need a second opinion from an engineering standpoint.

Thanks, your opinions very much appreciated.

Bigger delta-T probably means more surface area. More surface area = bigger HX = more expensive.

The HX vendor should have provided the calc sheets for both units. Look at surface area, pressure drops, etc, not just the price.
