I have had a catastrophic failure on a cement mill feed journal (tyre type sitting on white metal shoe bearing pads) and after machining the journal replaced the white metal bearings )in for 17 years) with OEM spare bearings in store for 17 years. Since then had a heat problem on the outlet side. Last week I replaced the out-feed bearings to prevent similar failure is feed side. Heat problem did not go away but increased! During this exercise I removed a 1mm shim from the outlet bearings. Height difference is now 4mm over 12 m. Polysius is not very concerned about the height difference and thinks my problem is else where. I have used the BS3332/1987 spec for the new bearings.
Has anyone had a similar experience and can share some of that knowledge?
