Hello everybody:

I would like to get information regarding to the Heat Rate for large stationary medium speed Diesel engines.

I wonder if does exist technical papers showing the experiences that establish a band or something like that, for the increase in Heat Rate accordingly with the time of operation of the engines?

Any comment about the sources of information, will be highly appreciated.

Your local engine dealer can bury you in technical information, if he smells any possibility of a sale.

A modern efficient medium speed engine of say 8MW will have a heat rate of around 8000 kJ/kWh, corresponding to an efficiency of approx 45%.
There wont be too much degredation in heat rate between overhauls and it will depend upon things like your fuel type and quality, operating regime etc.
An increase of 1% in the period leading up to an overhaul would be reasonable, and this would be recovered after the overhaul until the engine is nearing the end of its life, again subject to fuel, operating regime etc etc.

I am always wary of asking for this type of info from a dealer or OEM - they will only tell you what they think you want to hear...
By the way you might be better to post in the power generating facility forum if you aren't looking at an automotive application.
Hope that helps!

Hi taylorg:

I agree with you about asking for this type of information to the engines manufacturer, and that is the reason I post this question in this forum.

I will very much appreciate if you can give me a little more specific source of info, i.e. the power generating facility forum electronic address.

Thanks

It might be better in the Engine and Turbine forum. That is forum 666.

I hope you are not superstitious.

Hi rmw:

With your advice, I have already post my enquiry in that forum. Thanks.

Okay I give up, how do you get to this forum???
It isn't listed.

Hi icrman:

You can find the forum going to "Forum List" and then go to "Transportation" and there you could select "Engine and turbine engineering".

Good luck ¡
