I am trying to model the heat trasfer in a square Aliminuim sheet. Heat is applied to the sheat from a heater block that is attatched to the Aliminuim sheet in the middle. The power from the heater is 150 W and the sheet is initially at room temperature.I'm not sure about a few things:

1) When I create a step , do I choose General heat transfer as the procedure type? And to define the steps do I choose transient or steady-state?

do I define the initial temperature of the mould?

2) What type of loading do I need to use?

3) How do I apply the heat flux in the middle of the sheet? A surface load? I tried to apply a surface load on the surface of the section of the sheet where the heater is attatched but that didn't work and had to apply body forces!

I am desperate for answers. Thank you very much!

Look in the interaction module to apply a surface heat flux. You also need to decide what conditions apply to the free surfaces of the sheet. Whether you need a steady state solution or transient is up to what you need from the model.

Thanks Corus! I think I've managed to do it. I am getting an error that says:

NO VALID RADIATION OUTPUT REQUESTS HAVE BEEN GENERATED. THIS MAY BE DUE TO EARLIER INPUT ERRORS OR SPECIFICATION OF A NONEXISTANT CAVITY OR SURFACE NAME

Do you know what it is implying?

Check the interactions as it sounds like you have defined cavity radiation with incorrect surfaces. Of course if you have a block sat on a plate then you'll need to define an 'open' cavity so that the surface from the block radiates to the free surface of the plate.

I've ignored radiation and am just looking at condution and convection!! The block is sat on the plate, so I've partitioned the Aluminuim sheet so that I can apply the heat flux coming from the block at that partitioned face. Is that method ok? Cause its not really working?

Thanks!
