Hi,

Is there any requirement given in ASME SEC VIII Div 1/2 for temperature uniformity survey/calibration of HT furnace?

If i am doing PWHT by attaching calibrated thermocouple to vessel part then Is it mandatory to carried out temperature uniformity survey of HT furnace?

Can anyone provide reference for tha same.

Regards,
J

There is no requirement for a uniformity survey, thermocouples will suffice....however there are limits on temperature variations in UCS-56 which must be followed.

ASME VIII Div 1 is clear, did you read it?

Hi r6155,

Yes i have gone through UW10 and UCS56.
I am new to ASME SEC VIII Div 1.

Appreciate your response and reference.

Thanks in advance.

The HT procedure should state that sufficient thermocouples are attached to ensure uniformity.
The procedure needs to be approved by the client.
Placing and number of thermocouples to be used comes from experience, the hardness test after heat treatment would justify that.
