Heating water with steam. 4

Hi All,

I'm looking at heating inlet water using a steam stream.

The feed water entering my test module will be at room temperature and it needs to be heated up to 80 deg C.

How can I come up with the steam rate etc required to achieve this ?

Look up the heat of vaporization for your steam based on supply pressure and determine what flow rate is needed based on the delta T and flow rate of the water to be heated.

If the heating of the feed water is by direct contact, equate the sensible heat of the feedwater gained in heating up to 80 deg C with the enthalpy difference of the condensing steam between the vapor state and that of water at 80 deg C.

You didn't mention the on the quantity of water you want to heat but if the quanity is high enough you might want to look at this type mixing heater. These work very well and temperature control is relatively simple.
