I have a client requesting helical baffles for a standard Liquid-liquid shell & tube exchanger.
Upon opening HTRI, the software promts for input of a helical angle somewhere between 5-45 degrees.
Does anyone know what is a typical angle?

There is no typical angle;- it is function of fluid properties, velocity, turbulence for optimum heat transfer, etc.

Hi...
You can try this website from Lummus Technology Heat Transfer:
where they have available a HELIXCHANGER® Heat Exchanger Selection Guide Model.
(go to Lummus Heat Transfer - Helixchanger homepage - Helixchanger selection guide)

I think this may help you find a preliminary design. Final design shall be made by HELIXCHANGER® LICENSEES that you can contact for support.
