Hello,

I have been told there is a Sect VIII, Div 2 Code Case for UNS S31803 (2205 duplex); however, I don't know the number and have had no luck on the ASME web site for Code Cases.

Does anyone know if there is such a Code Case and what the number is?

Thanks

For UNS S31803
Nominal composition: 22Cr-5Ni-3Mo-N
Forgings: SA-182
Plate: SA-240
Seamless or Welded Tubes: SA-789
Seamless or Welded Pipes: SA-790
Seamless or Welded Fittings: SA-815

I hope this helps…

Thanks for the info.

What I'm specifically looking for is a Code Case which permits the material to be used for a Div 2 vessel. I don't see it listed as an acceptable material for Div 2 like it is in Div 1.

I've done several Div. 1 vessels (shop and field) in 2205.

However, I'm in a situation where we are basically competing against EN 13445 (the new European code) and Div 1 just isn't competative (we are an OEM). The project is in a location which the local authorities and owner accept "internationally recognized B&PV codes".

A few years ago, an engineer with CBI gave me some info from a code case which permitted 2205 to be used in Div 2; however, they are not interested in this project and if I ask them for the info again, it will flow to one or more of their competitors and I don't feel right about that. I want to get the UDS written before sending an RFQ out and need to reference the code case (if it is still valid) and determine which fatigue curves need to be used to determine if a fatigue analysis needs to be done.

If I can't find something soon we will just have in built in Europe to either the new EN or "old" national codes which the local authorities will accept.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi,
As far as I can see, the a.m. UNS S31803 does not exist in table 2A.

See Code Case 2067-3: "UNS S31803 Plates and Seamless and Welded Pipe and Tube and Forgings, Section VIII, Division 2".
